Carlo Ancelotti predicts the race for the top four will go down to the LAST DAY of the season as he looks to use Everton’s ‘fantastic history’ to motivate his stars in bid to snatch surprise Champions League spot

Everton can move into the top four if they beat West Brom on Thursday night, though their stay there might be as short of a couple of hours given Liverpool host Chelsea later in the evening.

After Monday’s win over Southampton, Ancelotti spoke of his side needing to beat West Brom to ‘touch’ the top four, even though he admitted he failed to realise how short-lived it might be this time around.

‘I forgot there was that game and maybe Liverpool or Chelsea can be in the top four, but it doesn’t matter,’ Ancelotti said. ‘We want three points, it is important to stay in the fight.

‘I’m sure this situation with the European positions will be decided in the last game, and we want to be there until the last game.’

Last month Ancelotti downplayed Everton’s chances of getting into the top four, but with 12 games to go the Italian said he wanted to use the prospect of Champions League football as a motivating tool.
